Plant Cell Cake

For my Honors Biology class, I was assigned a project of making a 3-D model of a cell. Of course, I opted to make mine out of cake.

I made a simple round 8″ vanilla layer cake with plain Jane vanilla buttercream frosting. I crumb coated the outside of the cake, and the covered it in a thin layer of marshmallow fondant mixed with modeling chocolate. I used a black edible ink pen to write cell terminology and other lame science terms on the cake.

The actual cell sculpture is made of homemade Rice Krispy Treats covered in more of my hybrid fondant mixture. I used the fondant to make the other organelles within the cell.

I made a 100% on the project!
